“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions Joel 2:28
Daniel in the Old Testament was a Dream Interpreter. He received the interpretation directly from God, the Holy Spirit. I, as an interpreter value this very much. I help people, speaking different languages to understand each other. Daniel really helped people by interpreting their dreams. But the dreams have not always been good or pleasant dreams.
Today, I would like to share parts of a dream that I recently had. In this dream, next to other moments, I heard a voice behind me speaking. It was a voice of authority and this voice had very helpful and encouraging words to say. As I turned around to find out who it was, I just saw a box (cardboard) on the ground. I found this to be quite strange but continued in my dream with other things I was faced with.
After discussing this dream with my daughter, God actually gave me the complete interpretation of the dream. Coming back to the voice in the box. I realized it was the Holy Spirit. This voice was in the box and wanted to be released from the box. As I mentioned in another blog earlier: we often put God (the Holy Spirit) in a box. Meaning, we don't allow God to use us in a way He would like to use us. For example: He wants to speak His truth and words to us and through us. In the Old Testament, God mainly used Prophets to speak to His people, which He does today still. But because all believers and followers of God have the ability to hear God, He can use all of us to speak at one time or another.
And if we allow God to use us to speak to others, there is always a supernatural occurrence happening. God speaks directly to our hearts and spirit, bypassing the mind. In this moment our reasoning is passed by and He speaks as He spoke to Adam and Eve. We will hear him without prejudice.
We also will never forget when He spoke directly to us or uses a person to speak to us. God knows the secrets of our hearts and often uses a person to speak to us about those secrets. Not to scare us but to confirm that it is God speaking to us. It's like He read our secret mail. That is what happens when God gives messages to pastors to speak to the congregation.
Anyway, coming back to the dream. It serves as a direction to me, telling me what is to come and what I need to consider and even change.
Dreams should always be lining up with the Word of God, meaning: they should serve as a vehicle of positive outcome in our lives. They should be encouraging and correcting and lining up with our life and always pointing us to Him and His wisdom.
Yes, there are dreams of warning. Dreams that are solely for the purpose of correction, maybe asking us to turn from sin. But once again, the outcome of a dream should always be leading us to Christ and His ways and love.
Interpreting dreams is not always easy. With the help of the Holy Spirit we can understand though. As in many other parts of our lives, we need to ask God for help. After all, He is the One who knows everything about us.
Praying today for all of us to have a listening ear toward God and what His Spirit is saying to us and through us. Father, help us to listen more than to speak. Help us to understand Your wisdom and make changes when changes are necessary. AMEN
